Questar III BOCES is searching for a dynamic leader for a probationary Career and Technical Education (CTE) Principal located at our Robert H. Gibson Technical School in Troy, NY.  Questar III provides a comprehensive array of CTE services for students in Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene County schools. Questar III Career and Technical Education programs provide students in 11th and 12th grades with the academic and technical skills necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. Career Tech programs offer students advanced, hands-on training in a variety of career fields.  Automotive Technologies, Building Trades, Intro to Employment, Heavy Equipment Operation & Maintenance, HVAC/R & Green Technologies, Nursing Assistant, Construction Technologies, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Gaming and Multimedia and Culinary Arts are some examples of the programs offered through our CTE program.  These programs progress through curriculum quickly and prepare students for in-demand, 21st century careers.  The position requires NYS administrative certification (SBL).  Preferred candidates should have demonstrated administrative experience, as well as experience in working with CTE and special education programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and innovative CTE curriculum aligned with industry standards, state guidelines, and academic requirements.

  • Promote and support data-driven instruction, differentiated learning, and effective teaching strategies across all CTE and academic disciplines.

  • Ensure the integration of academic content with CTE programs to provide a holistic and rigorous educational experience.

  • Monitor and evaluate instructional practices, providing constructive feedback and professional development opportunities to staff.

  • Champion the acquisition and maintenance of industry certifications for students and staff.

School Management and Operations:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the high school, including facilities management, budget administration, and resource allocation.

  • Develop and implement school policies and procedures to ensure a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.

  • Manage and evaluate all school personnel, including teachers, support staff, and administrative team members.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to education and CTE programs.

  • Oversee student enrollment, attendance, discipline, and support services.

Partnership and Community Engagement:

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with local businesses, industries, higher education institutions, and community organizations to enhance CTE programs, provide work-based learning opportunities (internships, apprenticeships), and ensure curriculum relevance.

  • Actively engage parents, guardians, and the wider community in supporting student success and school initiatives.

  • Represent the school at district, community, and industry events.

  • Secure grants and other funding opportunities to support CTE initiatives and school programs.

Student Success and Development:

  • Foster a culture of high expectations, academic rigor, and career readiness for all students.

  • Ensure access to comprehensive guidance and counseling services, including career exploration, post-secondary planning, and job placement assistance.

  • Promote student leadership, extracurricular activities, and a positive school climate.

  • Monitor student progress, implement intervention strategies, and celebrate student achievements.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Stay current with best practices in education, CTE trends, workforce development, and leadership.

  • Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance leadership skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

Education:

Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field from an accredited institution.


Certification/Licensure:

  • Valid SBL Certification

  • Valid CTE Director or Teacher Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum of  5-7 years of successful experience as a school administrator (e.g., Assistant Principal, Principal).

  • Demonstrated experience in a CTE or vocational-technical education setting is highly preferred.

  • Proven experience in curriculum development, instructional leadership, and staff supervision.

  • Experience building and maintaining successful community and industry partnerships.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a full-time (12-month schedule) Data Analyst position based out of our Central Office in Castleton, NY. This position will assist component school districts with data coordination tasks that allow for timely submission of accurate data to the NYS data repository; work closely with school district personnel to assist with the analysis and interpretation of data to support student improvement; as well as overall school improvement initiatives. The data analyst will plan collaboratively with Questar III Staff Development Specialists to organize, present, and interpret student performance data across content areas and grade levels. The individual in this position will have the ability to design spreadsheets or other tools to format, analyze, and interpret student performance trends across content areas and grade levels. The job holder will also assist districts with identification of existing data that can be used to better understand school improvement efforts and work to identify appropriate staff development and student learning opportunities based on data, as well as creating, administering, and analyzing surveys to various stakeholders. The selected candidate will participate in School Improvement teams and encourage a data-driven instruction model.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Certified candidates must hold NYS Teacher (professional or permanent) Certification. Non-certified candidates must meet minimum Columbia County Civil Service requirements (Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Data Processing, or a closely related field and two years of work experience working with data management systems).

Questar III BOCES is seeking a qualified bilingual resource specialist to join the RBERN team at the main office in Castleton, NY.  The ideal candidate is a dynamic and knowledgeable educator who can provide technical assistance and professional development for educators serving MLLs/ELLs.  While doing so, the incumbent will disseminate updates on federal and state regulations impacting bilingual education. They will also implement the objectives outlined in the annual RBERN Action Plan while assisting in planning district professional development programs aligned with NYSED requirements. They will participate in professional development conducted by other RBERNs, NYSED, and other educational entities, develop and distribute electronic communications, such as newsletters, webinars, and instructional videos. The incumbent will support PR/HYLI initiatives and attend statewide RBERN staff meetings. They should be familiar with collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to measure the effectiveness of bilingual education programs as part of their reporting duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

1.0    Basic Function:

To plan, develop, and evaluate Career Technical Education (CTE) Programs, Innovative High Schools (STEM and TVHS), and Adult Education and to oversee the operations of these programs to ensure the best possible outcomes for students including career preparation, college credits, college associates degrees, GED, and preparation for life. To provide leadership in the areas of CTE, Innovative High Schools and adult Education aligned with the mission, vision, and core values of the BOCES. To ensure that all instructional programs are planned and developed to meet the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students enrolled in these programs, and align with the needs of industry and businesses.       

2.0. Responsibilities:

2.1       Develop and implement an effective BOCES-wide process for CTE and Career Studies programs’ intake, curriculum review and development to ensure consistency across technical schools and programs. Supports the curriculum review of the innovative high schools (STEM and TVHS).

2.2       Oversee the NYSED CTE approval and re-approval process and work closely with the CTE Coordinator on these including facilitation of internal self-study, the external study, collection, and preparation of all necessary documentation for submission to the NYSED.

2.3       Work closely with the CTE Coordinator to oversee the administration of the annual technical endorsement assessments in all CTE programs. Collect data and distribute results regarding technical endorsement assessments to all component school districts, including follow-up surveys and data collection of all CTE and Career Studies students, graduates, and non-completer's after technical endorsement assessment completion.

2.4.      Design and implement an effective shared decision-making process to ensure stakeholder investment in any proposed curricular, instructional or assessment practices in areas of responsibility.

2.5       Work closely with the CTE Coordinator and facilitate articulation agreements between the CTE programs and post-­secondary institutions.

2.6       Oversee the BOCES Perkins grant and other funding related to areas of responsibility and ensure reporting requirements are met and follow NYS rules and regulations.

2.7       Provide instructional and curriculum support for CTE, Adult Education and Innovative High School programs to implement best practices working closely with the School Improvement Department.

2.8       Supervise and conduct the annual performance evaluation of the technical schools’ principals, the innovative high schools’ principals, the adult education director, and the CTE coordinator.

2.9       Coordinate meetings with Assistant Superintendent for Exceptional and Early Learning and with Principals to ensure consistency of curriculum implementation and to determine professional learning needs for teachers in the areas of students with IEPs and 504 plans.

2.10     Work closely with the Chief Information Officer and School Improvement Data Analysts to coordinate data analysis that assesses student learning and teacher effectiveness and report as requested to the District Superintendent and the Questar Board.

2.11     Assist in the development of Questar III policy, administrative regulations, procedures, and processes as they relate to student learning in the areas of responsibility.

2.12     Represent Questar III in regional CTE functions and other regional and state level CTE activities as appropriate.

2.13     Assist with interviewing and selection of new teachers, teacher assistants and other personnel in the areas of responsibility.

2.14     Participate in Mentoring Committee, Professional Development Plan committee, and onboarding activities for new staff in areas of responsibility as appropriate.

2.15     Participate and assist in budget development for instructional programs in areas of responsibility.

2.16     Observe teachers in Questar programs to gather data and provide feedback on instructional practices for the enhancement of effective instruction and improved student outcomes.

2.17     Collaborate with the Special Education Department to align and coordinate CTE/Career Studies programs for special education students placed by districts in Questar III special education programs.

2.18     Provide recommendations for the purchase of new instructional materials including equipment, textbooks, supplemental resources, educational software and web-based tools.

2.19     Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the District Superintendent.

3.0 Authority:

Authorized to act upon delegation and after consultation with the District Superintendent on matters pertaining to assigned responsibilities defined by the law, the rules and regulations of the Commissioner of Education, policies of Questar III, Rensselaer-Columbia-Greene Counties Board of Cooperative Educational Services, not authorized to act on those matters specifically withheld.

Leadership Coach (K-12 Education)

Job Summary:

Questar III BOCES announces an exciting opportunity for a per diem Leadership Coach in our agency. This position will work with a variety of stakeholders and be responsible for the research, review, and preparation of grant proposals for funding to support our work. The Leadership Coach (K-12 Education) is responsible for providing coaching, mentorship, and professional development to school and district leaders. This role aims to enhance leadership capacity, improve instructional practices, and support school improvement efforts. The Leadership Coach works closely with principals, assistant principals, and other educational leaders to foster a culture of continuous growth and excellence in K-12 schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and group coaching to school leaders to enhance their leadership skills and instructional effectiveness.
  • Support leaders in strategic planning, goal-setting, and implementation of best practices in education.
  • Assist in analyzing school performance data to drive informed decision-making and improvement strategies.
  • Stay up to date with the latest educational leadership trends, policies, and best practices.

Qualifications:

This is a per diem position at a rate of $400.00 per day.
