Job Description:

Questar III BOCES announces a Substitute Laborer position to assist with various operations and maintenance duties, including snow and ice removal, landscaping, assisting with custodian and construction tech duties. 

Typical work activities will include, but are not limited to: performing semi-skilled work in carpentry, electrical, painting, masonry, plumbing and landscaping; performing the repairs and preventative maintenance of Questar facilities; performing grounds keeping activities including snow and ice removal during winter months.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and at least two (2) years of training and experience in one or more of the mechanical or construction trades required. 

Preferred applicants will have experience providing building and grounds maintenance to an educational facility and supervision experience.

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a Full Time Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Teacher. We are seeking a dedicated and visionary CDOS Teacher to lead our transition services program. The primary goal of this position is to help students with disabilities develop the academic, technical, and "soft" skills necessary to earn the CDOS Commencement Credential and transition successfully into the workforce or post-secondary training.

This position will deliver a work-readiness curriculum based on the CDOS standards to Questar III Special Education students.  

This position will collaborate with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Special Education Teachers and the Work-Readiness Coordinator to develop work-based learning experiences in and outside the traditional classroom environment. 

This role requires tracking students’ units of study and the number of work-based learning hours. This teacher will also develop, organize and implement learning activities and curriculum that will ensure all students develop the job readiness skills that will allow them to be job-ready. 

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership: Design and deliver specialized instruction in the four CDOS strands: Career Exploration, Integrated Learning, Universal Foundation Skills, and Career Majors.
  • Transition Planning: Work closely with the Committee on Special Education (CSE) to develop meaningful post-secondary goals and transition activities within the IEP (Individualized Education Program).
  • Work-Based Learning (WBL): Coordinate and supervise school-based and community-based work experiences. Ensure all students meet the required 216 hours of CTE coursework and/or work-based learning.
  • Skills Assessment: Maintain rigorous "Career Plan" documents and "Employability Profiles" for each student, tracking progress in professional skills like punctuality, communication, and task completion.
  • Collaboration: Partner with local businesses, vocational rehabilitation agencies (e.g., ACCES-VR), and families to create a support network for student placement.
  • Compliance: Ensure all documentation meets state standards for the CDOS Commencement Credential, including tracking work hours and employer evaluations.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid State Certification in Special Education (K-12 or 7-12) OR Career and Technical Education (CTE) with a WBL extension.  
  • Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of the CDOS Learning Standards and the requirements for the CDOS Commencement Credential.
  • Experience: Proven track record of working with diverse learners and adapting curriculum for various functional levels.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for networking with community business partners and explaining complex transition paths to parents.

The Construction Technician is an entry-level position designed for individuals looking to build a career in facilities maintenance, grounds keeping, and light construction. Working directly alongside experienced operations and maintenance staff, the apprentice will gain valuable, hands-on experience while assisting with day-to-day facility upkeep, seasonal grounds keeping, and basic trade work.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance Support

  • Collaborative Support: Work closely with senior operations and maintenance technicians to assist with building repairs, upgrades, and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Light Electrical Work: Assist with basic, low-risk electrical tasks under direct supervision (e.g., replacing light bulbs/fixtures, resetting breakers, and assisting with wiring runs).

Questar III BOCES is seeking a dedicated, full-time Head Custodian for our Educational organization. The Head Custodian is a working supervisory position responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained educational environment across Questar III BOCES facilities. This role combines hands-on custodial and maintenance work with leadership responsibilities, including scheduling staff, overseeing building mechanical systems, and ensuring facilities meet strict health, safety, and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise and Schedule: Coordinate, assign, and review the daily work of custodial and maintenance staff to ensure efficient building coverage.
  • Train and Evaluate: Train team members on proper cleaning techniques, equipment operation, safety protocols, and chemical handling (SDS).
  • Time Management: Manage staff shifts, approve timecards, and arrange for substitute coverage as needed.

Facility Maintenance & Operations

  • Hands-on Custodial Work: Perform routine and heavy-duty cleaning duties alongside staff (e.g., mopping, vacuuming, stripping/waxing floors, and sanitizing high-touch areas).
  • Mechanical & Building Systems: Monitor and operate building systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and electrical. Report major maintenance needs to administration.
  • Groundskeeping: Oversee and assist with seasonal outdoor maintenance, including lawn care, debris removal, and snow/ice removal to ensure safe entryways.

Safety, Compliance & Inventory

  • Inspections: Conduct regular walkthroughs of the facility to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or cleanliness issues.
  • Inventory Control: Monitor, order, and stock cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment while staying within budget guidelines.
  • Security: Ensure the building is properly secured at the end of shifts (locking doors, turning off lights, arming security systems).

Qualifications & Skills

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in custodial work, facility maintenance, or a related field, with a proven track record of supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Civil Service: Must meet the requirements for the local Civil Service classification for Head Custodian (where applicable).
  • Licensing: A valid driver's license may be required for travel between BOCES facilities.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong working knowledge of commercial cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Familiarity with basic building maintenance (HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills to interact positively with staff, students, teachers, and administration.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety data sheets (SDS) and building blueprints/manuals.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.

Responsibilities

Direct Nursing Care: Provide routine and specialized nursing care, including G-tube feedings, tracheostomy care, catheterization, and basic wound care as outlined in student healthcare plans.

Medication Administration: Safely administer oral, inhaled, and topical medications to students according to physician orders and established protocols.

Health Monitoring: Monitor students for signs of medical distress, seizure activity, or changes in baseline health status, reporting concerns immediately to the RN.

Emergency Assistance: Assist the RN in responding to medical emergencies, including the administration of emergency medications (e.g., Diastat, EpiPen) when necessary.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of second language acquisition and be skilled in creating a culturally responsive and engaging learning environment. This role involves working with students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds to develop their English language proficiency in all four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Develop and implement effective, standards-aligned ENL curriculum and lesson plans for students at various proficiency levels (entering, emerging, developing, expanding, and bridging).
  • Assessment: Administer and interpret a variety of language proficiency assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, administrators, and other staff to support the academic and social-emotional needs of ENL students.
  • Student Support: Provide push-in and/or pull-out services to support students in their general education classes and in small-group settings.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress and provide resources to support language development at home.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in TESOL, ENL, Bilingual Education, or a related field.

  • Experience: Previous experience teaching ENL or bilingual students is highly preferred.
  • Skills:

Job Description

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a full-time probationary Special Education Teacher. Our programs offer a highly supportive environment for students with varying disabilities. Our multidisciplinary teams work closely to offer support in the areas of social-emotional learning, academics, communication, and behavior.  

Requirements:

  • Proper NYS Students with Disabilities certification required (SWD 1-6, 5-9, or 7-12)
  • Applicants who recently graduated and that are pursuing NYS Teacher certification are also encouraged to apply
  • Preferred candidates will have dual certification, strong classroom management skills, background in trauma-informed care, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and experience working with a team to implement Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
