Job Description:

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a full-time probationary Teaching Assistant position to work within our Pre-K and Special Education programs.  Questar III offers Special Education and Pre-K programs throughout Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene Counties.

We are looking for a patient, high-energy, and nurturing Pre-K Teaching Assistant to help create a world of wonder for our youngest learners. In this role, you aren’t just "helping out"—you are a co-pilot in the classroom, ensuring that every child feels safe, seen, and supported as they navigate their first big steps into education.

Your day will be a mix of messy art projects, playground supervision, and "lightbulb moments" as kids learn everything from their ABCs to how to share their favorite blocks.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Support: Work 1-on-1 or in small groups to reinforce classroom lessons on phonics, counting, and social-emotional skills.

  • Classroom Management: Assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining a structured, positive environment. (Yes, this includes the art of the "quick transition" from playtime to naptime.)

  • Student Supervision: Keep a watchful eye on students during recess, lunch, and bathroom breaks to ensure safety and proper hygiene.

  • Material Prep: Get hands-on with lesson prep—cutting out shapes, setting up sensory bins, and organizing the "organized chaos" of a Pre-K classroom.

  • Observation & Documentation: Help track student progress and milestones to provide meaningful updates to parents and administrators.

  • Light Maintenance: Keep the learning environment clean, sanitized, and inviting.

Minimum Qualifications:

NYS Teaching Assistant certification (or willingness to become certified) required.   Preferred applicants will have experience working with students in an educational setting.

Questar III prefers an online application, please apply below or email resume with cover letter to employment@questar.org.   Be sure to include Teaching Assistant - Pre-K in the subject line of your email.

Questar III offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits (including enrollment in the NYS Teacher’s Retirement system).  For more information on Questar III BOCES, please visit www.questar.org.
