2025 Summer IT Internship

Questar III BOCES announces the 2025 Summer IT Internship to support Questar III and component school districts.

The IT intern will be responsible for assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure. They will work closely with experienced Computer Service Specialist and Network Engineers to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of all systems. The intern will work to assist end-user training to employees on workstation-related applications (e.g., MS Office), employer-provided technologies (e.g., email, calendaring & scheduling, VPN Remote access, wireless, etc.) and related employer usage guidelines, policies & or procedures.

Rate of Pay is $20.00 per hour

Network Systems Manager

Network Systems Manager Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a full-time Network Systems Manager (Civil service title: IT Manager) to support Questar III and component school districts.  This position will be based in Coxsackie, NY. The incumbent will be required to analyze and diagnose network and server infrastructure problems. Research, install, and maintain new computer network hardware/software systems and train users on new software and equipment. This position proactively communicates alerts, notices, and announcements. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, and experience supporting a complex network environment. The incumbent will do other IT-related work as required.

Responsibilities:

1. Network Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage the school's network and VOIP infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
  • Experience with Cisco VOIP Systems (CUCM, CUC, and Voice Gateways) and Informacast Fusion Emergency Notification System is preferred.
  • Monitor and maintain network hardware, including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Experience with HPE Aruba and Cisco Meraki is preferred.

2. System Administration:

  • Administer servers and systems to support the school's operations, including file servers, email servers, and authentication systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure/Entra, Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace, Aruba Clear Pass, HPE Servers, HPE Nimble Storage Arrays, and Microsoft Hyper-V Clusters preferred.
  • Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Experience with Veeam Backup and Replication, Veeam Cloud Connect, and Tape Library Systems preferred.

3. Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce security policies and procedures to safeguard the school's network and sensitive data.
  • Experience with User Account Creation/Automation, Strong Documentation Skills, MFA Products, and Student Data Privacy preferred.
  • Stay informed about cybersecurity trends and proactively address potential vulnerabilities.

4. User Support:

  • Provide technical support to staff and faculty for network-related issues and serve as an escalation path for helpdesk technicians.
  • Collaborate with the IT helpdesk to resolve user-reported problems promptly and efficiently.

5. Network Upgrades and Expansion:

  • Plan and execute network and related systems upgrades to meet the evolving needs of the BOCES and Districts we support.
  • Collaborate with the Technology Department Management Team and School Administrators to assess and plan for future network and system improvement projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and EITHER:

A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a closely related field and two years of work experience involving responsibility for the maintenance, configuration, or installation of computer hardware and software in LAN and WAN based environments; OR

B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees, with an Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a closely related field and four years of work experience involving responsibility for the maintenance, configuration, or installation of computer hardware and software in LAN and WAN based environments; OR

C) Six years of work experience involving responsibility for the maintenance, configuration, or installation of computer hardware and software in LAN and WAN based environments;

Estimated Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000 (commensurate with experience)

The position will be subject to a Columbia County Civil Service examination and residency requirements (you must be a resident of Albany, Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene, Ulster or Dutchess county at the time of hire). $60,000 - $70,000
