Job Description:

The Questar III BOCES Health and Safety department has an immediate opening for a dynamic individual to join our team as a PART TIME Health & Safety Specialist in our Castleton, NY office.  Questar III BOCES is an educational cooperative providing services to school districts in Rensselaer, Columbia, and Greene counties.  This position reports to the Director of Health & Safety and involves providing  additional Law enforcement to support school safety initiatives, safety support and related activities to school districts and the BOCES. 

Qualified applicants should have experience in safety and training programs, knowledge of current safety regulations, experience in emergency management and code enforcement, experience conducting safety and security audits, and experience in preparing related reports. 

Applicants must be self-directed and able to work in a team environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are also a must.

Construction Technician

Job Description:

Starting immediately – Questar III BOCES has a full-time Construction Technician position available providing service across multiple building sites. This position will provide construction and building maintenance services for all Questar III BOCES-owned facilities.  

Working hours are Monday through Friday 1:30pm - 10:00pm. Must be available to work overtime as needed.

The candidate will provide scheduled maintenance of building equipment; installation and service of equipment and materials; design of small construction and maintenance projects; procure and install equipment/materials; respond to emergency calls at all Questar owned facilities and conduct snow removal as required. 

The candidates must have current skills and knowledge of carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and related trades. HVAC experience is a PLUS. A valid NYS driver’s license is required. 

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three (3) years of job related construction or building maintenance experience is required. Previous facility maintenance experience and knowledge preferred.  

As a public employer, Questar III BOCES follows Columbia County Civil Service and residency requirements will apply (must be a resident of Albany, Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene, Ulster, or Dutchess County to be considered).  The successful applicant would be given a provisional appointment and be required to take a civil service exam once it is announced.

Fire Systems Alarm Mechanic

Job Summary:

Questar III BOCES has an immediate need for a full-time Fire Systems Alarm Mechanic based on growing service needs. This position is based out of our 1070 Rte. 9 location in Schodack, NY.  The Fire System Mechanic will work with our school district customers to inspect, test and maintain fire alarm systems; inspect kitchen suppression hood systems; complete related inspection and service reports in a timely and accurate manner; and provide customer service excellence to our clients.  Additional duties include assisting in inspection, maintenance and service of all classes of fire extinguishers. Qualified candidates must be self-directed, have the ability to work unsupervised, possess mechanical skills, troubleshooting abilities and have excellent communication skills.  This position will involve working both 1st and 2nd shift hours and travel accordingly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent, valid NYS driver’s license, basic computer skills, experience in testing and maintenance of fire alarm systems, experience with use of various hand tools, and ability to lift fifty pounds. Preferred candidates will have certifications in testing and maintaining fire/security alarms and kitchen hood suppression systems. Knowledge and/or experience in maintaining portable fire extinguishers is a plus.

Job Description:

Questar III BOCES announces a Substitute Laborer position to assist with various operations and maintenance duties, including snow and ice removal, landscaping, assisting with custodian and construction tech duties. 

Typical work activities will include, but are not limited to: performing semi-skilled work in carpentry, electrical, painting, masonry, plumbing and landscaping; performing the repairs and preventative maintenance of Questar facilities; performing grounds keeping activities including snow and ice removal during winter months.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and at least two (2) years of training and experience in one or more of the mechanical or construction trades required. 

Preferred applicants will have experience providing building and grounds maintenance to an educational facility and supervision experience.

We are seeking reliable and detail-oriented cleaners who are committed to ensuring all cleaning tasks are completed efficiently. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors across assigned school district facilities.

High school diploma or equivalent and valid NYS driver’s license required.

Ideal candidates will have facility maintenance experience and flexibility to work both 1st and 2nd shift schedules.  This is a Full-Time Cleaner position that will float to all our buildings as needed.
