About the Job

The Interdepartmental Courier plays a vital role in ensuring the efficient and timely flow of documents, packages, and materials between various Questar III BOCES schools, administrative offices, and district facilities in Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene counties. This position requires a highly organized, reliable, and detail-oriented individual with excellent time management skills and a strong commitment to accuracy and confidentiality. The Courier acts as a crucial link, supporting the day-to-day operations of the entire school district. This is a 10-month position from September through June, based out of our Castleton, NY location. The work schedule is Tuesday–Thursday, roughly 7:30 am - 12:00 pm, with possible flexibility. This is a 10 month position, working during the school year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Timely Deliveries and Pick-ups: Safely and efficiently transport interdepartmental mail, packages, supplies, equipment, and other materials to and from all designated district locations (e.g., schools, administrative offices, maintenance departments, warehouses, athletic facilities).

  • Mail Processing: Sort, categorize, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring proper routing and delivery to the correct departments or individuals.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of deliveries and pick-ups, including dates, times, recipients, and contents, as required. Report any discrepancies or issues promptly.

  • Confidentiality: Handle all confidential documents and materials with the utmost discretion and security, adhering to district policies regarding sensitive information.

  • Vehicle Operation & Maintenance: Operate a district-owned vehicle safely and responsibly, adhering to all traffic laws and district transportation policies. Conduct daily pre-trip inspections, maintain cleanliness of the vehicle, and report any maintenance needs or issues to the supervisor.

  • Loading and Unloading: Safely load and unload materials from the delivery vehicle, utilizing appropriate lifting techniques and equipment when necessary.

  • Communication: Maintain clear and professional communication with district staff regarding delivery schedules, pick-up requests, and any potential delays or issues.

  • Route Optimization: Plan and optimize delivery routes to ensure efficiency and timely completion of tasks, especially during peak periods.

  • Problem-Solving: Identify and address minor logistical issues or discrepancies that may arise during deliveries.

  • Compliance: Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and safety regulations.

  • Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a courier, delivery, or logistics role preferred. Experience working in a school district or similar institutional setting is a plus.

  • Driving Record: Valid New York State driver's license with a clean driving record required. Must be insurable by the district's insurance carrier.

  • Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

    • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb stairs for extended periods.

    • Ability to load and unload vehicles.

    • Good vision and hearing (with or without corrective devices).

    • Ability to work in various weather conditions.

  • Skills & Abilities:

Construction Technician

Questar III BOCES has a full-time Construction Technician position available based at our Marilyn Noonan School located in Durham, NY. This position will provide construction and building maintenance services for all Questar III BOCES owned facilities.  Candidate will provide scheduled maintenance of building equipment; installation and service of equipment and materials; design of small construction and maintenance projects; procure and install equipment/materials; respond to emergency calls at all Questar owned facilities and conduct snow removal as required.  Candidates must have current skills and knowledge of carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related trades

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all BOCES owned facilities and equipment.
  • Procure and install equipment and materials as directed by supervisor.
  • Initiates and supplies all information needed for reports required by local, state, and federal authorities
  • Maintains all records and plans as directed by the supervisor. 
  • Designs small construction and maintenance projects
  • Estimates costs in terms of labor and material for small projects
  • Provides preventative maintenance on a regulated basis
  • Responds to emergency service calls at all BOCES locations
  • Works according to schedule established by supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility for direction of contractors and/or sub-contractors on job sites.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Must be available to work overtime as needed. Valid NYS driver’s license required.  High school diploma or equivalent and minimum three (3) years job related construction or building maintenance experience is required. Previous facility maintenance experience and knowledge preferred.

Director of Health and Safety

Questar III BOCES has an immediate opening for the Director of Health and Safety at our Central Office Location. This position is responsible for the oversight of the Health and Safety Service which provides a multitude of safety services to the BOCES and school districts both inside and outside of our regions.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a comprehensive health, safety, and risk management program for the BOCES and schools in compliance with Federal, State and local regulations.
  • Extensive knowledge of NYS Fire Code and prevention; NYS Education Department regulations, including current school safety standards and best practices ; hazardous materials management; related environmental regulations; workplace hazards and mitigation strategies; accident investigation; OSHA safety standards and related plans
  • Acts as the liaison with Federal, State, local and private agencies on health and safety matters
  • Establishes cooperative working relationships with participating school districts and other agencies
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules
  • Ability to develop and conduct health and safety procedure training programs
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Strong supervisory, leadership, and vision qualities are a must

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER;

a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in occupational safety and health programming or related field;

Fire Systems Alarm Mechanic

Questar III BOCES has an immediate need for a full-time Fire Systems Alarm Mechanic based on growing service needs. This position is based out of our 1070 Rte. 9 location in Schodack, NY.  The Fire System Mechanic will work with our school district customers to inspect, test and maintain fire alarm systems; inspect kitchen suppression hood systems; complete related inspection and service reports in a timely and accurate manner; and provide customer service excellence to our clients.  Additional duties include assisting in inspection, maintenance and service of all classes of fire extinguishers. Qualified candidates must be self-directed, have the ability to work unsupervised, possess mechanical skills, troubleshooting abilities and have excellent communication skills.  This position will involve working both 1st and 2nd shift hours and travel accordingly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalent, valid NYS driver’s license, basic computer skills, experience in testing and maintenance of fire alarm systems, experience with use of various hand tools, and ability to lift fifty pounds. Preferred candidates will have certifications in testing and maintaining fire/security alarms and kitchen hood suppression systems. Knowledge and/or experience in maintaining portable fire extinguishers is a plus.

The Warehouse Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to the receiving, storing, and shipping of supplies within the warehouse and school district. This role requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. The Warehouse Laborer plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of goods and maintaining an organized warehouse environment.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving and Loading/Unloading: Operates a box truck to deliver supplies to various Locations.  Manually load and unload trucks, containers, and other vehicles, ensuring proper handling of goods to prevent damage.

  • Receiving: Verify incoming shipments against documents, identify and report discrepancies, and move received supplies to designated storage areas.

  • Picking and Packing: Accurately pick supplies from warehouse locations based on pick lists/orders and prepare them for shipment, including packing, labeling, and staging.

  • Inventory Management: Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and organization of 

  • Warehouse Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment by sweeping, clearing aisles, and disposing of waste properly. Stocking shelves and maintaining inventory organization. 

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with team members and supervisors to achieve daily operational goals.

  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Supervisor or management.

Qualifications:

Education:

Experience: Previous experience in a warehouse or similar physical labor role preferred, but not always required for entry-level positions.
