About the Job

 


The Human Resource Generalist/Trainee is an entry-level position within the Human Resources Department, ideal for recent graduates or individuals starting their career in Human Resources, Benefits and Compensation. This role provides foundational experience in HR support, focusing on daily administrative functions of the Human Resource (HR) department:

 

  • Schedules and organizes appointments; takes minutes during departmental meetings.

  • Receives and distributes office mail and emails from the general mailbox

  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.

  • Assists in recruiting, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.

  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.

  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.

  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.

  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Administrative support and data processing for all HR functions; including but not limited to scheduling and organizing appointments; takes minutes during departmental meetings.

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS-registered college or university with a bachelor's degree; OR

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or NYS-registered two-year college or university with an associate's degree and 1 year of experience in HR;  OR

  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years of experience as described in (b) above;  OR

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above

  • Basic knowledge of, or a willingness to learn.

 

Columbia County Civil Service residency requirements will apply (must be a resident of Albany, Rensselaer, Columbia, Greene, Ulster or Dutchess County at time of hire).

Questar III BOCES is seeking a full-time Communications Technician (Civil Service title: Public Information Technician) to provide onsite support to school districts in Rensselaer, Columbia, and/or Greene Counties. This position is responsible for internal and external communications with emphasis on crafting and executing press releases, social media posts, web content creation (photography and video), writing newsletters, and more. Since this role is responsible for writing the majority of the content that is sent to parents, staff and the media, writing is a key component, and as a result we are seeking a detail oriented communicator who can comfortably craft, report, edit, and engage with the community. The ideal candidate can comfortably interact with staff, students, and leadership in person, and deliver content that is relevant, and concise for our larger audience at hand.

 

  • Develops and maintains a positive public image for the organization through public-facing communications and/or executes written content strategies to release information on the organization.
  • Writes, reviews, and/or distributes press releases and other public-facing communication. Responds to information requests from media contacts.
  • Create social and online media, print media, and other multimedia.
  • Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with school district personnel to develop a wide variety of communications for websites, social media, the media, and publications.
  • Creates Photo/Video Content as per creative briefs provided by department lead.
  • Arranges interviews for executives and management as part of special projects.  Edits documents for web and print publication.

  • An equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined by the limits of (A), (B), and (C) above

  • Basic knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, photography, videography, and graphic design
