About the Job

Starting Immediately - Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a full-time Adaptive Physical Education Teacher position. This position will serve students located across our multiple locations in Greene, Columbia, and Rensselaer Counties. 

As an Adaptive Physical Education (APE) Teacher, you will be a specialized educator dedicated to ensuring that students with diverse physical, developmental, or emotional needs have equal access to the benefits of physical activity. You will design, modify, and implement individualized exercise programs that promote motor skills, physical fitness, and social-emotional growth within a safe and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assessment & Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive motor skill assessments to determine a student’s current level of performance and eligibility for APE services.

  • IEP Development: Collaborate with the Special Education team to write and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), setting specific, measurable goals for each student.

  • Instructional Adaptation: Modify traditional physical education activities, equipment, and rules to meet the unique capabilities of students with disabilities (e.g., using tactile boundaries for students with visual impairments or specialized cycles for students with mobility challenges).

  • Direct Instruction: Provide individual or small-group instruction focused on fundamental motor skills, cardiovascular health, strength, and sportsmanship.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with Physical Therapists (PT), Occupational Therapists (OT), and general PE teachers to ensure a holistic approach to student wellness.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and quarterly reports required for legal compliance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or Special Education.

  • Certification: NYS Physical Education Teaching Certification Required (students currently enrolled in a program are encouraged to apply). Preferred candidates will hold Adaptive Physical Education (APE) certification and have experience providing APE services to special education students.

  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of various disabilities (Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, etc.) and how they impact physical movement.

  • Communication: Ability to explain complex physical tasks simply and communicate effectively with parents and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Patience & Creativity: A high degree of empathy and the ability to "think outside the box" to solve accessibility challenges on the fly.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate physical movements (running, jumping, throwing).

  • Capability to lift or assist students and maneuver heavy specialized equipment.

  • Work in various environments, including gyms, playgrounds, and other physical learning environments.

About the Job

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a Full Time Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) Teacher. We are seeking a dedicated and visionary CDOS Teacher to lead our transition services program. The primary goal of this position is to help students with disabilities develop the academic, technical, and "soft" skills necessary to earn the CDOS Commencement Credential and transition successfully into the workforce or post-secondary training.

This position will deliver a work-readiness curriculum based on the CDOS standards to Questar III Special Education students.  

This position will collaborate with the Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Special Education Teachers and the Work-Readiness Coordinator to develop work-based learning experiences in and outside the traditional classroom environment. 

This role requires tracking students’ units of study and the number of work-based learning hours. This teacher will also develop, organize and implement learning activities and curriculum that will ensure all students develop the job readiness skills that will allow them to be job-ready. 

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Leadership: Design and deliver specialized instruction in the four CDOS strands: Career Exploration, Integrated Learning, Universal Foundation Skills, and Career Majors.

  • Transition Planning: Work closely with the Committee on Special Education (CSE) to develop meaningful post-secondary goals and transition activities within the IEP (Individualized Education Program).

  • Work-Based Learning (WBL): Coordinate and supervise school-based and community-based work experiences. Ensure all students meet the required 216 hours of CTE coursework and/or work-based learning.

  • Skills Assessment: Maintain rigorous "Career Plan" documents and "Employability Profiles" for each student, tracking progress in professional skills like punctuality, communication, and task completion.

  • Collaboration: Partner with local businesses, vocational rehabilitation agencies (e.g., ACCES-VR), and families to create a support network for student placement.

  • Compliance: Ensure all documentation meets state standards for the CDOS Commencement Credential, including tracking work hours and employer evaluations.

Required Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid State Certification in Special Education (K-12 or 7-12) OR Career and Technical Education (CTE) with a WBL extension.  

  • Knowledge Base: Deep understanding of the CDOS Learning Standards and the requirements for the CDOS Commencement Credential.

  • Experience: Proven track record of working with diverse learners and adapting curriculum for various functional levels.

  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for networking with community business partners and explaining complex transition paths to parents.

Preferred candidates will have experience working with Special Education students.

Questar III BOCES announces a Full-Time English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher to join our team and serve students across our participating Schools Districts. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of second language acquisition and be skilled in creating a culturally responsive and engaging learning environment. This role involves working with students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds to develop their English language proficiency in all four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Develop and implement effective, standards-aligned ENL curriculum and lesson plans for students at various proficiency levels (entering, emerging, developing, expanding, and bridging).
  • Assessment: Administer and interpret a variety of language proficiency assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, administrators, and other staff to support the academic and social-emotional needs of ENL students.
  • Student Support: Provide push-in and/or pull-out services to support students in their general education classes and in small-group settings.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress and provide resources to support language development at home.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in ENL instruction, including new methodologies, technologies, and research.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and all required documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in TESOL, ENL, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certification in English as a New Language (ENL) or TESOL. New York State Certification in ESOL (K-12)
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching ENL or bilingual students is highly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theories and instructional strategies.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in using educational technology and a variety of teaching tools.
    • Bilingual proficiency in a language common to the school's student population is a plus.

Adult Education Teacher - Part Time

Questar III BOCES has a Part-Time (6 hours a week) Adult Education Teacher vacancy. This position will provide instruction and assessment for adult students in pursuit of their High School Equivalency diploma. Proper NYS certification in Adult Education (or eligibility for at time of hire) is required. NYS Secondary teacher certification preferred. Preferred candidates will be familiar with TABE and GED instruction.

A certified teacher will instruct adult students in the four subject areas (English, Science, Social Studies and Math) that are covered on the GED exam. The teacher will be responsible for recording the students' attendance, assessments, and assignments while evaluating their progress. The teacher will attend staff meetings and professional development training as needed.

Hourly Pay Range: $37.00 - $39.20 an hour
