About the Job

The Questar III New Visions Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) program is an intensive, rigorous program for high school seniors preparing for collegiate studies in engineering and the physical sciences. Blending hands-on, practical experience with advanced classroom instruction, this program exposes students to diverse engineering fields, independent research, applied mathematics, technology applications, and advanced sciences.

The New Visions STEM Teacher will develop, organize, and implement a dynamic curriculum that ensures students build collegiate-level academic skills, career-ready technical skills, professional work attitudes, and safe working habits.

In this unique role, the teacher acts as an instructional facilitator and interdisciplinary educator. You will design a curriculum that explores advanced STEM concepts, provide critical instructional support for students enrolled in RPI Physics 1 and 2 (taught by a Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute instructor), and directly deliver senior-level courses in English, Economics, and Participation in Government integrated within the STEM framework.

Required & Preferred Certifications

Candidates must hold a valid New York State teaching certification. Qualification in one or more of the following certificate titles is required/preferred:

  • Physics (7-12)
  • Technology Education
  • Mechanical Technology (CTE / Career & Technical Education)
  • Electrical/Electronic Technology (CTE / Career & Technical Education)
  • Industrial Arts

Key Responsibilities

1. Curriculum Development & Classroom Instruction

Integrated Learning: Design syllabi and deliver an enriching STEM curriculum that bridges technical concepts with real-world applications and career exploration.

Interdisciplinary Teaching: Instruction of senior-level English, Economics, and Participation in Government, creatively weaving these subjects into the overarching STEM theme.

Academic Support: Provide rigorous instructional scaffolding and support to help students succeed in their college-level RPI Physics courses.

Differentiated Learning: Plan a program of study that accommodates individual student needs, interests, and abilities while staying aligned with modern industry standards and job market demands.

Effective Pedagogy: Employ diverse, industry-appropriate instructional methods and materials to meet all program objectives.

2. Classroom Environment & Safety Management

Culture & Safety: Maintain a clean, organized, and highly conducive learning environment that strictly adheres to all safety requirements.

Safety Enforcement: Proactively teach and enforce all student safety procedures and industry-standard working habits.

Asset Management: Safeguard all tools, equipment, materials, and supplies assigned to the program to prevent breakage, theft, or waste.

Student Supervision: Maintain excellent classroom order and supervision, implementing all board policies governing student conduct both in the classroom and on school grounds.

3. Industry Engagement & Program Leadership

Advisory Leadership: Establish and lead a program Consultant Committee, ensuring active industry involvement in developing and evaluating the course of study.

Community & Employer Relations: Build and maintain strategic partnerships with regional employers to enhance the curriculum and assist in the professional placement of graduates.

Budgeting: Prepare and submit an annual course budget by the designated deadlines, as required by administration.

4. Student Assessment & Communication

Progress Tracking: Regularly assess student growth, maintaining organized, accurate, and up-to-date records of academic and professional progress.

Stakeholder Communication: Disseminate and interpret student progress data for students, parents, and home school officials through regular reporting and upon request.

5. Professionalism & Collaboration

Staff Engagement: Attend all mandatory staff meetings and actively serve on educational committees as required.

Professional Growth: Continually improve professional and technical competence by participating in professional meetings, conferences, workshops, and maintaining active membership in relevant professional organizations.

Authority & Reporting Structure

Reporting: Reports directly to the designated Questar III supervisor on a scheduled basis regarding all areas of responsibility.

Authority: Authorized to act upon delegation by the supervisor on all matters pertaining to assigned responsibilities. All actions must align with New York State Education Law, Rules and Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, policies of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES), and established budgetary limitations.

English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher

About

Questar III BOCES announces a Full-Time English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher to join our team and serve students across our participating Schools Districts. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of second language acquisition and be skilled in creating a culturally responsive and engaging learning environment. This role involves working with students from various linguistic and cultural backgrounds to develop their English language proficiency in all four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruction: Develop and implement effective, standards-aligned ENL curriculum and lesson plans for students at various proficiency levels (entering, emerging, developing, expanding, and bridging).
  • Assessment: Administer and interpret a variety of language proficiency assessments to monitor student progress and inform instruction.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with general education teachers, special education teachers, administrators, and other staff to support the academic and social-emotional needs of ENL students.
  • Student Support: Provide push-in and/or pull-out services to support students in their general education classes and in small-group settings.
  • Family Engagement: Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding their child's progress and provide resources to support language development at home.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices in ENL instruction, including new methodologies, technologies, and research.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, attendance, and all required documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in TESOL, ENL, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certification in English as a New Language (ENL) or TESOL. New York State Certification in ESOL (K-12)
  • Experience: Previous experience teaching ENL or bilingual students is highly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of second language acquisition theories and instructional strategies.
    • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
    • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in using educational technology and a variety of teaching tools.
    • Bilingual proficiency in a language common to the school's student population is a plus.

Appropriate NYS Certification required.  This position requires the incumbent to travel to participating School Districts and therefore requires reliable transportation.

Job Description

Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for a full-time probationary Special Education Teacher. Our programs offer a highly supportive environment for students with varying disabilities. Our multidisciplinary teams work closely to offer support in the areas of social-emotional learning, academics, communication, and behavior.  

Requirements:

  • Proper NYS Students with Disabilities certification required (SWD 1-6, 5-9, or 7-12)
  • Applicants who recently graduated and that are pursuing NYS Teacher certification are also encouraged to apply
  • Preferred candidates will have dual certification, strong classroom management skills, background in trauma-informed care, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and experience working with a team to implement Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
