Questar III BOCES announces a vacancy for full-time probationary Teaching Assistants to support students at our STEM High School.
The Teaching Assistant supports a post-graduation transition program for students ages 18–22, helping them develop the life skills and workplace readiness needed for greater independence. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, the Teaching Assistant provides instructional support in classroom, community, and work-based learning settings.
Responsibilities:

Support instruction in daily living skills, including personal care, meal preparation, money management, communication, and transportation.

Assist students in developing workplace skills, including following directions, completing tasks, managing time, and interacting appropriately with supervisors and coworkers.

Reinforce instruction and provide individualized support during job exploration, work-based learning activities, and community outings.

Encourage independence, self-advocacy, problem-solving, and positive social interactions.

Assist with implementing individualized education program (IEP) goals, accommodations, and behavior support strategies under the teacher’s direction.

Observe and document student progress, sharing information with the classroom teacher and program team.

Support student safety and participation, including assistance with mobility and personal care as required.

Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, and program staff to maintain a supportive learning environment.

Maintain student confidentiality and follow established program procedures.

Perform other related duties as assigned by administration.
Qualifications:

NYS Teaching Assistant certification level 1 or higher (or proof of working towards certificate in process) required.

Candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and a desire to work with kids are encouraged to apply

Preferred candidates will have experience working with Special Education students

Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to helping young adults build independence and prepare for employment and community participation.
