About the Job
We at Questar III BOCES are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) team as Summer Seasonal Help. This is an excellent opportunity for students or individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic environment providing district-wide services. The Operations and Maintenance Summer Help will support our O&M teams in various tasks, contributing to the efficient and safe operation of our facilities and equipment. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work and requires a strong commitment to safety and teamwork.
Responsibilities:
Perform general upkeep of facilities, including cleaning, organizing, and maintaining a safe work environment.
Support inventory management by assisting with receiving, stocking, and organizing school and building furniture.
Operate basic hand and power tools under supervision..
Paint and various other tasks as assigned.
Participate in site safety briefings and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
Perform grounds keeping duties as needed (e.g., mowing, trimming, litter removal).
Shadow experienced personnel to learn about various operational processes and equipment.
Complete other duties as assigned to support the O&M department.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a high school, vocational program, or college program (e.g., engineering, industrial technology, skilled trades, environmental science, etc.) is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of employment.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from the work site.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols diligently.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and reach for extended periods.
Comfortable working in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) and in school setting, which may include exposure to noise, dust, and chemicals (with appropriate PPE).
Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots, gloves, and hearing protection.
