Questar III BOCES announces a full-time (6-week summer program) Special Education Teacher Aide position to support Questar III special education students during ESY located at our following School Locations:
George Washington School (Troy)
Marilyn A. Noonan School (Durham)
Paul Puccio School at Maple Hill (Schodack)
Rensselaer Academy (Rensselaer)
Sackett Educational Center (Castleton-on-Hudson)
We are looking for a reliable and compassionate Special Education Teacher Aide to join our 6-week Extended School Year (ESY) team. In this role, you will provide general classroom support, assisting the Lead Teacher in maintaining a structured, safe, and productive environment for a group of students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
As a Teacher Aide, your presence allows for greater classroom flexibility, helping to ensure that every student receives the attention they need to prevent skill regression over the summer break.
Extended Summer Year (ESY) Schedule is as follows:
- July 2, 2026 - Orientation Day - All Day
- July 7, 2026 - August 14, 2026 - 6 weeks
Responsibilities:
Classroom Support: Assist the Lead Teacher in the daily setup and cleanup of instructional materials, sensory stations, and specialized equipment.
Small-Group Facilitation: Lead or supervise small groups of students during centers, recess, or snack time to ensure safety and engagement.
Behavioral Monitoring: Act as an extra set of eyes and ears to identify escalating behaviors and assist in the implementation of classroom-wide positive behavior supports.
Student Transitions: Help escort students safely between the classroom, buses, therapy rooms, and the playground.
Material Preparation: Prepare tactile learning tools, PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) cards, or modified worksheets as directed by the teacher.
General Supervision: Assist with the general health and safety of students, which may include helping with coats, backpacks, or basic hygiene needs.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Associate's degree or completion of an approved Teacher's Aide program preferred.
Candidates with a paraprofessional certificate or equivalent as required by New York State are strongly encouraged to apply.
Preferred candidates will have experience working with Special Education students.
