Paul Puccio School at Maple Hill (Schodack)
Rensselaer Academy (Rensselaer)
Sackett Educational Center (Castleton-on-Hudson)
We are looking for patient, high-energy Special Education Teaching Assistants to support our 6-week Extended School Year (ESY) program. In this role, you will be the "boots on the ground," providing essential one-on-one and small-group support to help students maintain their hard-earned progress from the school year.
If you are passionate about making a difference and enjoy a fast-paced, collaborative environment, this is a perfect way to spend your summer.
Since ESY is specifically designed to maintain skills rather than introduce new curriculum, you’ll be the bridge that ensures our students start the upcoming fall semester with confidence and consistency. Experience working with Special Education students is preferred.
Extended Summer Year (ESY) Schedule is as follows:
- July 2, 2026 - Orientation Day - All Day
- July 7, 2026 - August 14, 2026 - 6 weeks
Responsibilities:
Direct Student Support: Assist students in completing academic tasks, functional life skills, and social activities as outlined in their IEPs.
Behavioral Assistance: Implement positive behavior support strategies and follow established Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to ensure a safe learning environment.
Instructional Reinforcement: Lead small breakout groups or 1:1 sessions using materials provided by the Lead Teacher to reinforce skill maintenance.
Personal Care: Provide assistance with daily living activities (which may include toileting, feeding, or mobility support) based on specific student needs.
Data Tracking: Assist the Lead Teacher in recording daily progress data and behavioral observations.
Environment Setup: Help prepare the classroom each morning and transition students safely between activities (e.g., arrival, recess, therapy sessions).
Requirements:
NYS Teaching Assistant Certification required at time of hire.
Candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent and a desire to work with kids are encouraged to apply.
Preferred candidates will have experience working with Special Education students.
