Job Description:
We are seeking a dedicated and insightful Behavior Specialist with a strong foundation in School Psychology to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the gap between psychological assessment and practical behavioral intervention. You will collaborate with educators, administrators, and families to design, implement, and monitor evidence-based behavioral support plans that foster social-emotional growth and academic success for students with diverse needs.
1.0 Basic Function
To provide consultation to the classroom teams both in terms of total classroom management and in individual student needs. To research and develop alternative behavior programming for the classrooms. To provide consultation to psychologists and social workers to support the classroom team.
2.0 Responsibilities
2.1 To assist and support the development of functional behavioral assessments behavior intervention plans for students with challenging behaviors.
2.3 To act as a coordinator for a team approach to the difficult behaviors.
2.4 To provide written documentation for the classroom team to present to parent and CSE Chairpersons.
2.5 To lead team meetings in the development of behavior plans for the more difficult Behaviors.
2.6 To guide the team in the implementation and monitoring of developed behavior plans.
2.7 To represent the team at meetings with the CSE and parents when delivering a new plan of adjustments to an existing plan.
2.8 To act as coordinator and trainer for Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Crisis Prevention Intervention for staff.
2.9 To further develop partnerships with outside agencies that can provide services for our Students.
2.10 To conduct workshops for Questar staff in the areas of behavioral management, specific disabilities, and other topics as needed.
Certified candidates must hold NYS certification as a School Psychologist or related field.
Non-certified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Counseling,
Behavioral Sciences or related field and experience working with children as a behaviorist.
Preferred applicants will be licensed as a Mental Health Counselor, hold board certification
as a Behavior Analyst, and have experience with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
Background in Applied Behavioral Analysis also preferred.
