Starting 8/1/2024 - Questar III BOCES announces a full-time (1.0) teaching position for the 24-25 school year in our New Visions Medical Program that will be located at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. We currently offer the same program at the Samaritan Hospital and we are expanding it to Columbia / Greene Counties. This program is a challenging half day course open to high school seniors interested in pursuing careers in various medical fields. It allows students to explore a wide variety of careers and specialty areas in the medical field through first-hand experience and related college coursework. Students will explore a variety of professions while being exposed to a multitude of clinical settings. The program will also provide valuable preparation for students interested in pursuing related careers such as dentistry, respiratory therapy, radiation technology and nursing. Classes run daily from 7:45-11:30 a.m. and follows a traditional 10-month school schedule. The teacher is responsible for delivering rigorous course work and facilitating opportunities for students to engage in practical simulations, hands-on experiences, and connections with our partners. The instructor will also deliver senior courses in English, Economics and Participation in Government. Additionally, they would build relationships within the hospital as well as those in the medical field, bring in guest speakers, and take students on rotations. The teacher will have their own classroom at Columbia Memorial.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have professional experience in one or more health care professions that require a 2 – 4 year college degree (nursing, respiratory therapy, radiation technology, etc.); a college degree focused on the sciences with lab experience; and experience working with and/or teaching other professionals. If not currently a NYSED certified teacher, the candidate must be willing to pursue a NYS teaching certification in health occupations or related field.
